Santa Cruz

Megan and I visited the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk yesterday. With temperatures hitting 99˚ in Stockton and Sacramento, we figured the coast would be a bit cooler. The weather forecast said Santa Cruz would have a high of 85˚ and be mostly sunny. As you can see by the picture, there was no sun, only fog. Oh, and the temperature was off by about, oh, 20˚!! So much suntan lotion wasted...

Here was the rule I always followed about the California cost. If it is approaching 99 in the valley expect fog on the coast. If it is under 90, there is a chance of clear and sunny. I know that works pretty well on the north coast, but I'm not sure about the cental and south coast.

Your theory fits our experience pretty well, so we'll definitely remember that for the future. I guess the 85-degree forecast was really for the city of Santa Cruz, and does not include its boardwalk. We were pretty cold wearing t-shirts and shorts in 60-degree weather.
